How detection actually works
Detectors do not look for a watermark. They score text against patterns that language models tend to produce: uniform sentence length, low burstiness, predictable transitions, and a narrow vocabulary. That is why editing a few words rarely changes a score, while restructuring sentences does.
Why scores disagree
Two detectors reading the same paragraph often return different verdicts, and the same detector can change its answer after a model update. Treat any single score as a signal, not a verdict — and never as evidence about who wrote something.
What to do with a high score
- Restructure long sentences instead of replacing words.
- Add one specific detail only you could know.
- Read it aloud — anywhere you stumble, a reader will too.
Humanize the text first, then re-check it.
